About the role


Drone Major Limited is seeking a Bid Manager to lead the identification, evaluation, preparation, and submission of tender opportunities across all relevant markets. This is a strategic and operational role responsible for ensuring the company targets the right opportunities at the right time, balancing potential revenue and profit against internal capacity, technical readiness, and strategic direction.

The successful candidate will act as the central coordination point for all tender and bid activity. They will gather and analyse opportunity information, source and engage potential suppliers and delivery partners, and form consortia where appropriate. The role requires a good understanding of Drone Major’s technical capabilities and the broader  supplier eco-system.

This individual will work closely with senior leadership, project managers, and technical staff to prioritise opportunities, allocate bid resources, and ensure the company is professionally represented in all external engagements, competitions, and procurement discussions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Opportunity Identification & Qualification

  • Monitor public and private sector procurement channels, frameworks, and industry networks for relevant tender opportunities.
  • Assess opportunities against company capability, strategic fit, resource availability, and commercial viability.
  • Produce opportunity briefs and recommendations for senior leadership decision-making.

2.Bid & Tender Management

  • Lead the preparation, coordination, and submission of high-quality tender responses.
  • Develop bid plans, timelines, and responsibilities across internal and external contributors.
  • Ensure all submissions meet compliance, formatting, and deadline requirements.
  • Maintain version control and document discipline across all bid materials.

3.Consortium & Supplier Engagement

  • Identify and engage potential suppliers, subcontractors, and delivery partners.
  • Build and maintain a network of trusted technical and commercial partners.
  • Form and manage consortia where opportunities require multi-party delivery.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities and alignment with Drone Major’s standards and values.

4.Internal Coordination & Resource Balancing

  • Work closely with senior leadership to balance opportunity value against staff workload, technical availability, and operational commitments.
  • Coordinate input from engineering, manufacturing, quality, and project management teams.
  • Ensure bid efforts are proportionate and strategically aligned with company growth objectives.

5.Market Representation & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent Drone Major in procurement briefings, industry days, networking events, and coordinating body discussions.
  • Maintain professional relationships with contracting authorities, industry partners, and framework administrators.
  • Ensure the company’s technical strengths and delivery credibility are clearly communicated.

6.Tracking, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain a structured tender tracking system covering pipeline, progress, outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Produce regular reports on bid performance, win rates, and opportunity trends.
  • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and success rates in bid submissions.
  • Capture and disseminate feedback from unsuccessful bids to inform future strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in bid management, tender coordination, or business development within a technical or engineering-led organisation.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes across public and private sectors.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary contributions to complex proposals.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and translate it into clear, persuasive written submissions.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within unmanned systems, aerospace, robotics, defence, or advanced technology sectors.
  • Familiarity with consortium or partnership-based bidding environments.
  • Knowledge of government frameworks, utilities procurement, or research funding competitions.
  • Experience in small or growing technology companies where strategic prioritisation is critical.
