Compared with the Inspire 1, the Inspire 2 utilizes an innovative structure that separates the CineCore 2.0 image processing system from the camera and places it inside the aircraft. This means that the sensor and optical system are detachable and easily connected using a newly designed quick-release connector. Designing the camera system in this way effectively protects the sensor from magnetic interference originating from the processor. It also allows a range of lightweight camera units to be connected as required by different scenes. The uprated M4/3 sensor — and support for interchangeable lenses — allows the Zenmuse X5S to capture high resolution images of incredibly high quality, when combined with the extraordinary CineCore 2.0 image processing system.

The onboard Micro 4/3 sensor has been upgraded, significantly improving image quality. With a pixel size of 3.4μm, this 20.8-megapixel sensor captures more detail than the previous sensor. Since it uses a standard Micro 4/3 mount, the Zenmuse X5S now supports up to eight professional lenses* with focal lengths ranging from 9mm-45mm (equivalent to 18mm-90mm on a 35mm camera), providing more creative control over the final look of a shot.

Using CineCore 2.0, the Zenmuse X5S records video at a maximum resolution of 5.2K/30fps in CinemaDNG 12bit1, 5.2K 30fps Apple ProRes 422 HQ and 4K 30fps Apple ProRes 4444 XQ (no alpha)2. Additional recording options include video in 4K/60fps using H.264 or oversampling video in 4K/30fps using H.264/H.265, both with a bitrate of 100Mbps.

The DJI CINESSD card (PCIe3.0 NVMe SSD support) and a highly optimized FAT32/exFAT file system, allows Zenmuse X5Sfootage to be transferred directly through the DJI CINESSD STATION card reader to a computer at high speeds without anyadditional software. Footage also supports the DIT standard. CinemaDNG or Apple ProRes workflows can be used for post-processing.

Using only the Micro SD card, 20.8MP stills can be captured at 14fps in Burst Mode in JPEG+DNG. Using the DJI CINESSD opens up 20fps continuous DNG Burst Mode with a maximum image resolution of 20.8 megapixels. Stills can also be taken during video recording without interruption.

Stabilizing the Zenmuse X5S is a highly optimized 3-axis gimbal with pinpoint-precise motor rotation with a control accuracy of ±0.01° powered by a dedicated processor.Rather than rely on electrical slip rings — as is common with many gimbals — the Zenmuse X5S uses a unique mechanically limited design and concealed wires to ensuremore stable data transmission and greater durability. Vibration is eliminated using three damping balls and a lightweight damping board, creating seamlessly smooth video.360° rotation remains possible through gimbal rotation and smooth aircraft yaw. Stable, smooth footage1 can be captured even when using a 90mm2 lens.

The all new 13 inch quick release rotors are built with the unique DJI "Z-Blade" design. They have been reinforced with a new carbon fiber compound material to ensure excellent performance with increased stability.

Brushless motors pioneered by DJI are now the standard in the multirotor industry. But the Inspire 1 takes the next step in brushless development by integrating curved magnets that fit flush around the edge of each motor. Although much more difficult to produce, these magnets eliminate airflow gaps within the motor, greatly increasing efficiency.

Several strands of copper wire have been replaced by a single, dense strand. Reducing the wasted space between wires results in more copper within each motor, providing more power and less resistance. A centrifugal pump increases airflow inside the neat, tight copper windings dissipating heat much faster while greatly increasing the life of the motors.

The revolutionary Electronic Speed Controllers (ESC) with sinusoidal drive replaces the square wave drive of traditional ESCs redefining the whole drive system. The patented algorithm in the ESCs have been tuned and customized specifically for the Inspire 1 offering features such as closed loop torque control and distinct functional redundancy with the highest efficiency and the most reliability.

A fully integrated intelligent battery powers your Inspire 1 and virtually manages itself.

When in flight, your remaining battery power is shown live, letting you know how long you can continue to fly. Advanced algorithms calculate the distance of your aircraft and estimated time to return home, letting you know when it’s time to fly back.

The battery reports the voltage of each cell, the total lifetime charges and discharges, and the overall health and battery status. All this helps you keep your Inspire 1 in the air and flying for years to come.

As it flies, the position of your Inspire 1 is constantly updated and recorded using a high-strength, intelligent GLONASS + GPS system. This dual positioning system enables higher precision and quicker satellite acquisition, allowing you to see where the aircraft is on a live map and giving it a point to hover at when you release the controls.

This is the "brain" of the entire system, receiving thousands of bits of data every second and translating that data into action as you fly. The Main Controller tells every part of your Inspire 1 what to do, calculates environmental conditions in real-time, and ensures that the aircraft responds to your control commands instantly.

Automatically keeping the Inspire 1 stable and steady during flight only looks easy, as DJI’s advanced Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) handles everything. The IMU incorporates both a 6-axis gyroscope and an accelerometer to monitor miniscule changes in tilt and movement. This allows the aircraft to compensate and adjust immediately, holding its position at all times.

All of these features combine to put your Inspire 1 on autopilot when needed. If the battery runs low or connection with your remote controller is lost, the Inspire 1 uses its positioning system and smart flight technology to return back to you.

DJI built the Vision Positioning System from the ground up, customizing it to meet the rigorous requirements in place for anything that handles position holding on our flying platforms.

This system combines visual data and sonar waves in a single unit, detecting both variance in patterns on the ground and current altitude. With this information, your Inspire 1 can hover in place and automatically raise or lower its arms as you liftoff or descend to the ground.

But the sonar and visual information is just one half of the fully integrated package: processing this information is handled by a dedicated CPU chip. This chip takes in feedback and outputs data in real-time, and is intelligent enough to distinguish between objects and ground patterns. A dual battery system prolongs the flight time while self-heating technology allows it to fly even in low temperatures.

Flight Autonomy has been revised and developed specifically for the Inspire 2, providing two directions of obstacle avoidance and sensor redundancy. Increased intelligence adds multiple intelligent flight modes, including Spotlight Pro, giving even single pilots the ability to create complex, dramatic shots. An upgraded video transmission system is now capable of dual signal frequency and dual channel, streaming video from an onboard FPV camera and the maincamera simultaneously, for better pilot and camera operator collaboration.
