As an industry-standard, building surfaces must be free from solar radiation for a minimum of 2 hours prior to the start of a thermographic survey – longer if the building consists of a heavyweight fabric. This is in order to allow for the effect of external heat gain in the wall to dissipate. For this reason, surveys can be expected to start around midnight during summer and early evening during winter.

The UAV Night Operations workshop session elaborates on this requirement, defining best-practice for UAV pilots intending to capture thermal images during night operations. The workshop covers topics including work-flow, documentation, relevant ISO standards and emergency procedures.

iRed Academy - APS Infrared Certificate

Price: £595

The APS (“Aerial Payload Specialist”) Infrared Certificate has been designed to provide highly professional theoretical and practical infrared drone training for users intending to view or capture aerial thermal images.

The APS Infrared Certificate course is designed for new and existing drone pilots looking to expand their range of commercial services. The course has been designed to provide an introduction to the many aspects to be considered when buying, assembling and operating thermal imaging equipment for commercial aerial surveys.

Subject to weather, the first day of this course is classroom based, with topics including airframe types, camera selection, pertinent air laws, human factors, environmental conditions, work flow and customer deliverables. The following practical session will be run from our Bosham base, with heated briefing room and workshop facilities. During the course, delegates will have the opportunity to plan, rig, test and execute an aerial thermographic survey.

The APS Infrared Certificate course is ideal for those already comfortable with piloting a drone, however those new to the industry can gain a strong grounding in aerial thermography whilst having the opportunity to try out the latest in infrared and aerial equipment.

iRed Academy - Aerial Thermography Training

Price: £1,750

Conforming to ISO 18436 standards, this comprehensive aerial thermography course combines the principles of infrared thermography with aerial work-flow considerations.

The Aerial Thermography Category 1 course has been designed to provide an introduction to the many aspects to be considered when buying, assembling and operating thermal imaging equipment for commercial aerial surveys. In addition to this, the course delivers fundamental skills and knowledge for general thermography, making it ideal for those looking to gain quick experience and competency to a high industry-standard.

The first 3 days of the course are based in our purpose-built training facility in Emsworth, Hampshire (just outside of Portsmouth). Delegates will share these days with students from the iRed Category 1, PCN Category 1 and ABBE Certificate courses, ensuring all attendees understand the essential principles of infrared thermography (radiometric imagery, emissivity, reflected apparent temperature etc.) before specialising in their last 2 days.

Subject to weather, one of the final days of the course features a practical session run from our Bosham base, with heated briefing room and workshop facilities. During the course, delegates will have the opportunity to plan, rig, test and execute an aerial thermographic survey.

The Aerial Thermography Category 1 course is ideal for those already comfortable with piloting a drone, however those new to the industry can gain a marketable advantage whilst having the opportunity to try out the latest in infrared and aerial equipment.
