MVC Flow Essential is an ultra-light navigation and motion-sensing module for micro drones. It combines optical-flow measurement, altitude awareness and inertial sensing to support terrain following, stable hovering and position hold in GPS-denied or visually challenging environments.
The STM32F412CEU6 microcontroller features a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 processor operating at 100 MHz with 512 KB Flash. It processes motion and environmental data in real time, enabling flight-control responses while maintaining low power consumption.
The onboard ICM-42688-P accelerometer and gyroscope measure movement, vibration and angular changes. A PixArt PAW3902JF-TXQT optical-flow sensor tracks surface-relative motion, while the Broadcom AFBR-S50LV85D distance sensor provides altitude and ranging information. Together, these sensors improve hover stability, terrain awareness and position estimation when GNSS data is unavailable or unreliable.
An integrated 850 nm infrared LED illuminates low-contrast surfaces, improving optical-flow performance where visible features may be insufficient. This helps maintain motion tracking across indoor areas, dark environments and changing terrain.
MVC Flow Essential provides a debug port for diagnostics and firmware access, together with a CAN communication port for real-time data exchange with the autopilot. These interfaces simplify integration and testing, reducing development effort for drone manufacturers.
Designed for power-conscious applications, the module accepts a maximum input voltage of 5.25V. Its efficient architecture supports compact aerial platforms where battery capacity and flight endurance are critical.
Weighing 2.2 g and measuring 15 × 35 mm, MVC Flow Essential adds sensing with minimal payload impact. Its operating and storage temperature range of -20°C to +85°C enables use in demanding field conditions.
