Mavinci Dynamics - MVC ToF Essential

MVC ToF Essential is a compact depth-sensing module for drones, robotics and embedded systems. Built around Sony’s IMX316 indirect Time-of-Flight sensor and an integrated 940 nm VCSEL illuminator, it generates real-time depth maps, grayscale amplitude images and point clouds for navigation, obstacle detection, inspection and spatial awareness.

The Detail

The sensor provides 240 × 180-pixel resolution with a 3.0 mm diagonal image area. Its field of view covers 62.8° horizontally and 37.9° vertically. A rolling shutter supports sensor rates up to 120 FPS, while four-phase processing delivers depth information at up to 30 FPS.

Dual modulation frequencies of 75 MHz and 37.5 MHz support measurement distances of 4 m and 2 m. The module outputs four-phase RAW data, depth information and grayscale amplitude images. Operation without an IR-cut filter improves sensitivity to the 940 nm illumination source and supports short-range perception under challenging lighting conditions.

A two-lane MIPI interface and DF56C-26S-0.3V(51) micro-coaxial connector provide low-latency data transfer. MVC ToF Essential integrates with a Compute Module 4 on MVC Autopilot Essential and supports Debian Bookworm 64-bit. Its V4L2-based video-kernel interface enables access in embedded Linux environments.

Software support includes SDK for C, C++ and Python, enabling developers to incorporate depth data into applications. ROS compatibility simplifies integration into robotic workflows, autonomous navigation, machine-vision systems and research platforms.

With a maximum input voltage of 5.25V, the module is optimized for power-conscious systems. It weighs 5 g and measures 15 × 35 mm, making it suitable for compact platforms where payload capacity and installation space are limited. An operating and storage temperature range of -20°C to +85°C supports deployment across demanding conditions.
