Terabee - TeraRanger Tower

With zero moving parts, TeraRanger Tower is a silent & reliable alternative to rotating LiDAR scanners for navigation and obstacle avoidance. It combines 8 TeraRanger One sensors in a circular array and the TeraRanger Hub to create a lightweight, fast (up to 270 Hz), and eye-safe scanner. Calibrated distance data is streamed from a USB or UART port as an array of synchronized distances, in millimetres.

The Detail

Two versions are available, one with eight TeraRanger One sensors (Tower 8), and the other with four TeraRanger One sensors (Tower 4). Tower 8 gives you more data points to work with, producing denser maps and providing more sensing coverage for collision avoidance. Tower 4 is a lower cost alternative offering the flexibility to place 4 sensors where needed, and the option of plugging in more sensors at a later date if required.

Field of View Advantage

An advantage of TeraRanger LED technology is that it enables the sensor to have a “Field of View” so that, rather than measuring distance based on a very small point of laser light, the sensor measures over an area. At a 1m distance, the area is approximately 3cm by 3cm. At 10m it is approximately 30cm by 30cm, increasing linearly with range. For many drone applications, this is a significant advantage, enabling you to detect small hazards that the laser may miss. It also provides a more appropriate and stable data stream when flying a drone over vegetation, close to trees or other irregular shaped objects that need to be detected at high speed.
